MY CHALLENGE QUILT

Now I can show you my challenge quilt.  As I mention in a periously posting that this year's challenge is BACK TO TRADITIONAL QUILTING –YOUR GRANDMA’S QUILT. On June 16th Wee  Bee Quilters of DC participated in the North Michigan Park Rec Center's family Day.  This is an annual affair and we always hang our quilts and have a challenge.  We always have a viewers choice contest.  My quilt won 3rd prize.  I was so surprise because I never won a ribbon for my quilts.  This is a Jacob's Ladder Pattern but I used African fabric and black fabric.

These are my Craftsy One line class "Block of the Month"  blocks for June and July. I do not like doing the dresden plate pattern(the blocks on the left) because you have to use templates. The modern nine patch (the blocks on the right).  See my earlier posting for the blocks January - May.

More Queen Bee Pictures

Take a look at all the beautiful gifts . Some of the gifts were handmade my Shirley R. and Gwen J.  I just love the different bees.  They didn't know that my Sorority, Eta Phi Beta Sorority, icon is the Honey Bee.  The Mug Rug with the teapot and cup was given to me as a Christmas Gift last year by Patty D.   Gwen J. and Shirley R.  spent endless hours making these lovely and buying the gifts.  You can't see the bracelet to well, but it has a little bee in the middle surrounded by beads on a silver chain.  The apron was made by Shirley R.  This is a picture of my family members in attendence. A DAY WITH THE SENIORS

Yesterday I taught my seniors how to make a 10 min block table runner.  It is so easy and fast.  I made two runners and two placemats yesterday before class.  They loved it.  They began pulling out fabric from the pile of decor fabric that was donated to center and making table runners.  Thanks to one of my quilting buddies, Linda from eatsleepquilt.blogspot.com took these pictures. Go to her blog for more pictures.   Patty D my other running and quilting buddy assisted me in sewing the table runner while I explain the directions.  I found out making these runners are really a good way of cutting down your stash.  Well, I have to eat something now.  I don't know about you, but sometimes I get caught up in quilting that I must make myself stop quilting and eat because I need the nurishment.  I be back later with more pictures of my projects since May 27. Queen Bee for the Day

You do not know during your life journey whose life you have  made a difference in their lives. Well, today it started as a bad day for me. I just did not have the energy to anything and moving very slow. Today was my "Wee Bee Quilters" meeting. There was no workshop today, just sit and sew. There was no reason to rush and plus the time of the meeting changed from 12 noon to 1 pm. I called  my girlfriend Shirley and told her I call will when I am ready. I knew she was tired also since she drove up here from Durham, NC and we where out all day yesterday.When I finally got myself together was off to the meeting about 45 mins late (so I thought). To my surprise the ladies of Wee Bee had planned a wonderful surprise banquet for me. When I open the door everyone yelled SURPRISE. The first thing that went through my mind was who were they surprising. I was in total shock. Of all days I was not looking my best, no makeup and I threw on any old thing. Anyhow they rush me to my throne, placed a crown on my head, gave me a wand. They had arranged the tables banquet style and beautiful decorated and they even had yellow rose petals on the floor. The room was simply beautiful.The president, Marlene asked me to take an oath. Then it was explain to me that these wonderful and talented women wanted to tell me how much I have touch their lives. I was overwhelm and not realizing how much I meant to them and what I did to change their lives. They presented me with roses.  Each member presented me with a rose and a card until I had two vases full of beautiful yellow roses. They presented me with gifts and 20 beautiful signature blocks. Then the members shared with the group what I did for them. Of course, their was a roast. They also contact some of my family members, which was totally a surprise. I can't forget the song that was compose for me by Carolyn B*. and sung by Felicia the Slow Quilter blogger,http://theslowquilter.blogspot.com. That was so funny. Now Felicia sings beautifully but this time she was sing crazy and off tune (LOL). I have to get a copy of the song.  I will continue tomorrow with more pictures.   (*correction) I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE FOR TURNING MY BAD DAY INTO A WONDERFUL DAY.  YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT LIFE'S JOURNEY HAVE PLAN FOR YOU.  YOU ALL HAVE BEEN THERE FOR ME.  I DID NOT KNOW I DID SO MUCH TO BE GIVEN THIS HONOR.  I ALWAYS BELIEVE IN HELPING OTHERS WHEN I CAN.  YOU ALL ARE A BLESSING IN MY LIFE.

Hi everybody, I am back ( I think).  My friend Felecia (Slow Quilter) showed me how to add pictures and to add links to my blog.  I hope I can remember how to do it.    Now, I had this computer for several years.  I did not know that I had slots for camera discs on my CPU and I can download my pictures from there. Thanks Slow Quilter.  Anyhow here are my blocks for Craftsy block of the month.  On the left is the April blocks (hexagons).  I am not doing this again. I don't like english piecing.  The blocks on the right are the May blocks (Wonky log cabin).  I like doing these blocks less stressful.

So far I no bingo for me but I do have four buttons sewn.  B-Monkey, G-bear, G-Holly, O - flower, O-dragonfly.  I hope they call B-Waves and I-Bus then I will have a diagonal bingo.

My Craftsy's Blocks of the Month

I mention in an earlier posting that I was taking a free online Craftsy block of the monthWorkshop.The bottom picture are the blocks created from January through March.  The top picture are April's BOM and these blocks are English Pieced.  This technique is not for me. It involves hand piecing and using templates. But that's alright, I need to be challenge. The block on the left wasn't to bad because the hexagons are l 1/2 inches.  They look bigger, ugh, that is because hexagons are measured by the length of the edges not the width.  The block on the right the hexagons are 3/4 inches.  I found out that I work better with a paper template instead of plastic templates because the plastic ones where popping out as I sew.  If you done English Piecing you know what I mean.  It not to late to join in the fun, especially if you have quilting buddies doing it also.  The Slow Quilter, Felecia is doing it too.  We are trying to get Patty D to join but she working on several other projects.  She is not like Felecia and I, put whatever we are working on aside when we see something new and exciting.  That why we are called "The Slow Quilter and I "Seldom Finishes a Quilt."  Oh, I forgot Linda from "Eat, Sleep, Quilt" is like us.
